Questions for those with less

Here are some questions I have for those people who have few things:

1. If you don't have many clothes, do you have to do laundry more often? Isn't that a benefit of having more clothes? Wouldn't this end up taking you more time and sort-of cancel out any benefit of having less so you can do more?

2. If you only have a very few dishes (say, enough to make it through a day) then what do you do when you have guests?

3. How did you decide what to keep and what to get rid of? Have you gotten rid of something you wish you had kept and what was it?

4. What the heck do you do with memorabilia? Pictures, kids first drawings, really good notes and cards from people you love?

That's it for now!

If you are reading and would like to comment, feel free!! I'd love to know your thoughts, if you have downsized, or if you would like to. Whatever.

Now keep in mind I have WAY TOO MUCH STUFF but I'm working on it.

1. I have a fair amount of clothes but I find I can uhm only fit into a certain small amount after 2 kids! I have 2 pairs of jeans and like 8 pairs of shorts, but we wear shorts year round. I do laundry once a week. I do towels on one day, kitchen towels/bibs another day, kids laundry and adult laundry. It works out well. I mean I have like four million pair of underwear, socks and pjs so that stuff never runs out. I am getting better about getting rid of silly things like keeping old prom dresses and bridesmaid clothes i'll never wear again.

2. We have 8 dishes, 8 bowls, salad plates (had an accident lol) and we wash dishes every 2 days. When people come over we usually just use Chinet plates for regular meals but I have a set of holiday dishwasher safe china we use for Christmas and Thanksgiving meals. I cook for almost every meal anyway so we are running the dishwasher often, sometimes once a day.

3. I sometimes put things in a box or bag and tuck it into a closet. When I take it out to go through it a few months later, if I haven't needed anything in it I chuck it. I did get rid of a few pieces of clothes that I sort of regreted but I can always buy a newer, nicer piece if I need it.

4. I bought two large folders (11x14) that close with a fastner one for each girl that match. I take pictures of ALL artwork with my good camera and save it on my laptop in a artwork file. Anything not special gets thrown away, so I only keep a few meaningful pieces. I have a small cardbox that holds meaningful cards and I scanned all sorts of things like programs and old invitations I loved and saved them and made a small scrapbook with the best and threw the rest away.

Also, it may sound odd, but Carl and I no longer exchange cards for every holiday. I also bought a small photo album and put all the photo christmas cards and birthday invites in it and let Chloe have it. She can go through and identify people and look at it and enjoy it. I periodically take out the old invites when a new one comes in and I need space. I do also have a bullitan board in the office that current birth announcements/cards/invites are stuck on. Then when time passes they either scanned and then either filed in the album or thrown away.

You are so organized!! I really need to start scanning and photographing things. That would allow me to be able to get rid of them, which would be very very nice. Dan and I also don't really exchange cards either, just occasionally. We should probably stop with them all together because I have a box that is in my "go through" pile. As well as tons and tons of magazine pages I've torn out for one reason or another. Ugh.
